Use
of the symbol >
Instead
of saying "Click the 'Start' button, then click
'Settings,' then click 'Control Panel,'" etc.,
we will use the symbol > to abbreviate as follows:
Start
> Settings > Control Panel ...

1.
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Network
> Configuration.
2.
Look for the name of the ethernet card. It should appear twice,
once by itself ("Ethernet Card Name") and once after the letters
TCP/IP -> ("TCP/IP-> Ethernet Card Name")
If
it is not listed at all, then go to Start > Settings
> Control
Panel > Add New Hardware and follow the directions
If
it is listed by itself but not after TCP/IP, then:
Click
the ethernet card name and then click "Add"
Click
"Protocol" and then click "Add"
Click
"Microsoft" on the left, and TCP/IP on the right
You
should then be back at Network > Configuration with "TCP/IP
-> Ethernet
Card Name" included in the list

Click "TCP/IP -> Ethernet Card Name" and then "Properties"
4.
Set the IP address to:

) Obtain an IP address automatically

Specify an IP address
IP
Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Subnet
mask: 255.255.255.0
5.
Set the Gateway to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (Enter the numbers in "New
Gateway" and then click "Add")

Set DNS Configuration to:

) Disable DNS

Enable DNS
Host:

Domain:
xxxx
DNS
Server Search order: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
7.
On the Binding Tab remove all the checked boxes. Click "OK."
It will ask you if you want to select binding now; say 'NO'
8.
Close all windows and reboot.
